Meet Our Generation Hope Interns

We’re thrilled to have 5 wonderful interns join our team this year! We’re excited to welcome both our clinical mental health interns, who will be with us for the full year, and our Summer 2024 interns. We’re grateful to each intern for supporting Generation Hope’s work and helping us make an impact.

Say hello to our Summer 2024 Interns!

Karis Devaney

DC Program Intern

My name is Karis Devaney and I am the new Program Intern for the summer. I am so excited to be a part of Generation Hope and have the chance to work towards our shared mission. I am currently a rising senior at the University of Maryland, College Park, where I am studying Family Science. My hope is to pursue a career in social work or case management following undergrad and to take the necessary steps to fulfill those aspirations.

Whilst in college, my special interest in the mental health and wellness of families has only grown, making me extremely passionate about advocating and promoting wellness. I want to spread awareness on what is vital to the family system to maintain positive mental well-being. As someone passionate about mental health, wellness, and public health, I am honored to have the privilege of working for an organization that supports student parents and their children. Outside of my career aspirations and passions, I love to read, spend time with my friends and family, and go to music festivals.

Megan Moody

Government Affairs Intern

Hi everyone! My name is Megan Moody and I am the Government Affairs Intern for the Policy and Research team.  I am so thrilled to get to know the Generation Hope team and learn from their expertise.  Most importantly, I am excited and grateful to be able to play a small role in the amazing work Generation Hope does to better the lives of student parents. I am a rising senior at American University, with a major in public relations and strategic communication with a minor in political science.  I recently returned from a semester abroad in Thessaloniki, Greece.  It was super eye opening to learn about communication and government in an international setting.

I’ve had a passion for advocacy since high school, which has deepened throughout my time in college and living in D.C.  My time as an intern in the federal government showed me firsthand the power that nonprofits and advocacy networks can have on the policymaking process.  I am looking forward to an amazing summer and getting to meet the Generation Hope team!

Bethelheim Haileyesus

Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern

Hello! My name is Bethelheim (Beth), and I am excited to be working as a Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern at Generation Hope. I am in the final stages of my Master’s program in Marriage and Family Therapy at Capella University. I have a deep passion for helping people create loving and healthy relationships with those around them and feel honored to be part of their healing journeys. In my free time, I enjoy watching TV, painting, and taking naps! I look forward to learning, growing, and contributing to the well-being of our clients during my time at Generation Hope.

Monica Pelzer Lapko
Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern

Hello, my name is Monica and I am very excited to join Generation Hope as a Clinical Mental Health Intern this year. I am a DC native and believe the city has some of the best hidden gems and community resources in the country. I received my undergraduate degree in Art History/Studio Art from Trinity Washington University and my Masters of Arts in Human Development and Education in Special Education for students with Emotional/Behavioral Disabilities from George Washington University. I am in the final stretch of receiving my second Masters of Arts in Counseling in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Trinity Washington University. As a student parent for most of my post-secondary education I recognize, understand, and can relate to the challenges that often come with wearing multiple hats and having to be “all the things for everybody” during this time. I look forward to supporting Scholars on their life changing journeys. During my spare time I enjoy listening to a good book, painting, or taking a well deserved nap.
