Quote:

"Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome."
— Booker T. Washington

Why I chose this quote:

The reason I chose this quote is because as an undocumented woman and a teen parent, the odds of going to college were high and the tumultuous life I had as a child had taken school out of the picture. I have had to overcome many obstacles to get to where I wanted to be and to me success is not about what title follows my name, but rather all the challenges I was able to overcome. During my graduation at UMD, President Pines opened his speech with this quote and it reinforced and reminded me that just by sitting in that audience with the rest of the graduates, I was already successful.
