Generation Hope Announces FamilyU
A new two-year technical assistance cohort for colleges and universities to enhance their supports for parenting students and help them graduate
Today, Generation Hope is thrilled to announce the launch of the 2021 FamilyU Cohort, our two-year technical assistance cohort for colleges and universities to enhance their supports for parenting students. This learning community is all about partnering with higher ed institutions to transform their campuses to better serve this population -- and most importantly -- to help them graduate. To learn more about the challenges that student parents face every day as they work towards their post-secondary credentials, please click here.
Colleges and universities in the Mid-Atlantic region can apply to be a part of this two-year cohort experience starting today. Applications are due on May 14, 2021. We're also hosting an Information Session for potential applicants on April 20, 2021 at 2:30 p.m. EST. Higher ed professionals can register here for the session.
FamilyU has been developed after years of partnering closely with higher ed institutions and identifying consistent needs: more student parent data, more family-friendly institutional policies, and a fundamental shift in campus culture. Through FamilyU, higher ed institutions will work with us to learn how to enhance their student parent supports -- transformations that will benefit all students. They will also have access to individual work plans, 1:1 coaching, and field experts as they work to shift the student parent experience at their institutions.
FamilyU is undergirded by the voices and expertise of student parents. As one of our Scholars, Yoslin Amaya Hernandez, says often, "If you’re not at the table, then you are on the menu.” We believe in centering the experiences of student parents in our work, and FamilyU is no exception. This program was created through conversations with student parents and practitioners across the country to keep their needs and lived experiences at the forefront of this work.
To apply for the inaugural FamilyU Cohort, interested higher ed institutions can submit their application by May 14th. To learn more, please visit our website, and we also encourage you to join us for the virtual information session at 2:30pm ET on April 20, 2021.
